Before beginning the scarf, I added three purple ends to each side of the warp. I measured six 3.5m lengths of the purple silk yarn, threaded these through the heddles (reading right to left, left side = 3,2,1, right side = 8,7,6) and then the reed (two ends int he outermost slot, one in the slot next to the existing warps).
The new ends were then tied to the front apron rod together with the 2-stick header.
The new warps were hung over the warp beam and weighted.
The next step was to hemstitch with the black rayon yarn and begin to weave.
There were a few knots in the warp. These were repaired while weaving by cutting the end with the knot about 1cm past the fell-line, tying a new new length of yarn to the cut end that is threaded through the reed, needle weaving end of the new length of yarn into the same position as the original end, and wrapping the needle-woven end around a T-pin to secure it in place (see T-pins in the image below). Then from the back of the loom, gently pulling the new yarn (with the knot that attaches it to the original yarn) through the reed and heddles, and hanging the now much longer piece of yarn off the back of the loom with a weight. Once the original piece of yarn is able to reach through the heddles and reed and well past the fell-line of the cloth, the process is repeated to remove the new knot. The T-pins are removed after weaving has progressed about 15cm past them.
Over several days, I wove ~13 complete pattern cycles (moving from the top purple reed position to the bottom position and back to the top counts as full cycle), each pattern cycle was about 15.5cm in length. After the final cycle, I hemstitched. I began and ended the weaving at the central white vertical reed position.
The total time at the loom was 6.5-7 hours (each cycle took 25-30 minutes; includes the time taken to hemstitch at each end) and the total length of fabric should be about 204cm.
