Warp 20 – Covers planned and woven

This is the warp for the second pair of cushion covers for Nathalie

Warp length = 2m
Warp and weft yarn = 8/4 cotton
Warp = Jaune fonce (yellow) & Creme
Weft = Peacock (blue/green) & Jaune fonce (yellow)
Structure = 2/2 twill
10dpi reed, 1,2 per dent
epi & ppi = 15
300 ends = 51cm (20″)

Warp threading is modified from Jane Stafford’s Small threadings twill gamp (Season 4, episode 3)
1) Straight draw border
2) Straight draw (#1 in draft)
3) Point twill (#2 in draft)
4) 6 thread broken twill (#3 in draft)
5) Point twill
6) Straight draw
7) Straight draw border

The weft will be woven using a modified TAW Ms & Ws from Season 4 episode 5. I will weave a 24 pick border of creme 16/2 to use as a hem at each end. This will be followed by 8 picks of yellow in a straight draw. Next I will weave 10 repetitions of MW followed by a final M in jaune fonce (yellow). Finally I will repeat the yellow and creme borders.

Warp thread sequence for the preparation of the warp is:
11 yellow
44 creme (straight draw)
8 yellow
43 creme (point twill)
8 yellow
72 creme (6 thread broken twill)
8 yellow
43 creme
8 yellow
44 creme
11 yellow
All yellow was wound with 1 end in my hand, all creme with 2 ends.

I wound the warp onto the warping mill, spread it in the raddle, wound it onto the warp roller, threaded the heddles, sleyed the 10 dpi reed (1,2 per dent) and tied it onto the front apron rod.

I used this warp to weave two identical cushion covers and a small piece from the warp end.

Both covers were woven as follows:
Using 16/2 creme, I wove 2 picks alternating basketweave and hemstitched before weaving 24 picks of straight draw (1234), also in 16/2 creme. This will form a hem for the finished piece.
Next came the border – 8 picks pf 8/4 yellow in straight draw (1234).
Then the pattern TAW MW – in 8/4 peacock. After weaving 10 repetitions of the pattern and a final M, I wove 8 picks of yellow straight draw border (4321 to keep the pattern moving in the same direction as the peacock section), 24 picks of 16/2 creme in straight draw (again 4321), and finally, 2 picks alternating basketweave for the hemstitching.

To use the warp end, I took the 8/4 yellow yarn and wove 2 rows of alternating basketweave for hemstitching, the same 8 pick border as for the covers (this was done at the end also, but I had to do 9 picks at the final end to get the basketweave for the hemstitch started at the right side of the cloth), and 4 repetitions of pattern + an M using the 8/4 peacock.

Once the weaving was finished, I removed the fabric from the loom, machine washed it on a normal warm water cycle, cut the pieces apart, trimmed loose ends, pressed with a hot iron and dried.

The finished pieces measure 41.5cm, 41.5cm and 20cm in length (not including hems ie 8/4 cotton portion only) and 42cm in width.
