Using 16/2 creme, I wove 2 picks alternating basketweave and hemstitched before weaving 24 picks of straight draw, also in 16/2 creme. This will form a hem for the finished piece.
Next came the border – 8 picks pf 8/4 red in straight draw.
Then the pattern – in 8/4 green woven TAW undulating. After finishing the first repetition, I measured it and found that a single repetition was just less than 5cm; so I’ll need 10-11 repetitions to get 50cm.
After weaving 10 repetitions, I checked the length and decided to go for 11 repetitions of pattern before weaving the 8 picks of red straight draw border (starting on treadle 3 to get the basketweave correct), 24 picks of 16/2 creme in straight draw (again starting on 3 to keep the pattern correct), and finally, 2 picks alternating basketweave for the hemstitching.
The completed 8/4 cotton portion of the fabric measures 51.5cm with the tension off.
