Yesterday, I wove and finished the sample piece.

I hemstitched in blue and began weaving using the treadling sequence described in the previous post (TAW threading including colours). I wove a single pattern repeat – 284 picks. The weaving progressed smoothly and was trouble free.

In order to safely remove the sample from the loom for wet-finishing, I wove and glued a stick into the warp. This allows me to lose the least warp possible when removing the sample from the loom.

Once the flour paste was dry, I cut the fabric from the loom, trimmed the loose ends, washed it by hand in cold water, and pressed with an iron on the silk setting. The fabric was then dried flat overnight. In the morning, I worked it in my hands to soften it. It is beautiful – great colours and SO soft and drapey.

Unfortunately, when I was washing the sample, I left it sitting in the sink of cold water while I set up the iron – this only took about 1 minute. However, when I got back both the magenta and purple colours had stained the natural colour in the areas where they intersect. This is more noticeable in the magenta areas. Don’t leave them sitting in the water next time!!!
