Warp 31 – 3rd piece (scarf) completed

I sewed the stick onto the front apron rod and began weaving the first of the actual pieces (a scarf) to come from this warp.

I began (and ended) the piece with about 12 picks of plainweave – 2 for hemstitching. The pattern was woven using 4 colours of 20/2 silk for the pattern weft with the same treadling and colour blending as on the sample pieces. The colour sequence orange-red-magenta-purple-magenta-red was repeated 6 times and weaving ended with a final band of orange.

Once weaving was ended, I wanted to see how the piece came out before beginning the next piece. So I left a gap and once again wove 1cm of plainweave, inserted a stick and wove another 1cm of plainweave. Flour/water paste was applied to the woven areas and allowed to dry. The completed fabric was then cut from the loom, measured, washed by hand in warm water with a gentle detergent, loose ends trimmed and pressed with a warm iron set to “silk”. The fabric was then dried, worked by hand to soften and a label sewn on by hand (3 rounds of small stitches in each corner of the label & knotted with a wrap of thread around the stitches).

The dye in the pink pattern yarn ran slightly so the yellow 60/2 silk areas under the pink pattern yarn have a pink tinge, however, this is only minor.
