Warp 26 – Sampling for sett: Pieces 1 & 2

I wound the warp and dressed the loom as planned – 248 ends, alternating scuba blue and black threaded in an extended point twill pattern (8 repetitions of pattern #4 on Jane Stafford’s online guild video S04E08) at 20epi.

The first sample:
2 picks alternating basketweave in black 16/2 mercerised cotton and hemstitch
10 picks TAW straight draw in black 16/2 mercerised cotton
3 repetitions of TAW point twill (#2 on Jane Stafford’s online guild video S04E08); alternating green glow/cedar green 10/2 mercerised cotton (ie light and then dark)
8 picks TAW straight draw in black 16/2 mercerised cotton
1.5 repetitions of TAW point twill; alternating cedar green/green glow 10/2 mercerised cotton (ie dark and then light)
10 picks TAW straight draw in black 16/2 mercerised cotton
2 picks alternating basketweave in black 16/2 mercerised cotton and hemstitch

The piece was cut from the loom, washed in warm water on a normal machine wash cycle, loose ends trimmed, pressed with hot iron and dried.
Pre-wash measurements – 9.5x30cm
Post-wash measurements – 9×28.5cm

I decided that I wanted to weave another sample with sett of 24epi. So I changed the reed to a 6dpi reed and resleyed with 4 ends per dent.

The second sample:
2 picks alternating basketweave in black 16/2 mercerised cotton and hemstitch
10 picks TAW straight draw in black 16/2 mercerised cotton
3 repetitions of TAW point twill (#2 on Jane Stafford’s online guild video S04E08); alternating green glow/cedar green 10/2 mercerised cotton (ie light and then dark)

Pre-wash measurements – 6.75x25cm
Post-wash measurements – 6.25x24cm

I decided that I preferred the 24epi version and that I would weave about 30cm for each face cloth.
