I decided to change the weft colour for the warp end. I played with a few possibilities in WeaveIT and decided to use a 2/30Nm (19.5 microns) Saxson teal marl from DEA yarns.
I tied the 2-stick header to the apron rod, hemstitched and began to weave.
Over several days, I wove 16 pattern repetitions – this gave me 218.5cm of on-loom fabric. The pattern repeats ranged from 12.75-15.5cm, with an average of 13.6cm.
After 9 repeats of pattern with the teal weft, I decided to finish the piece using the black yarn as the weft.
The fabric was removed from the loom and wet-finished (warm water wash and hot-pressing on “wool” setting). The piece weighs 160g. It has a lovely feel and drape and the pattern is mind-boggling! I actually prefer the teal weft section – the wool is softer and I really like the colour.
