The main purpose for this warp is to exhibit the scarf at the Eastside Gallery in the “Brilliant vibrant women” exhibition at the end of February. After completing the sample and being happy with sett etc, I began to work on the exhibition piece.
I had to take some pictures before the work was finished to send to the gallery to see if they would accept the work or not. This turned out to be quite difficult as the colour changed so much depending on the angle, the time of day and the light source in the room. Two examples are below.
After completing seven repeats of the pattern, I measured the work on the loom but with no tension (involved unrolling all of the fabric on the cloth beam) – it came to about 158cm, I decided that this was enough and did the final hemstitching.
So I left a gap and wove the last piece on this warp – the warp end. I managed four pattern repeats before there was absolutely no space left.
I then cut all of the fabric from the loom, separated the pieces, trimmed the fringes, washed by hand in cold water, trimmed loose ends and removed knots, pressed with an iron on silk setting and laid the pieces out to dry.
Piece | Pre-wash | Post-wash | Weight |
Scarf | 40x154cm | 38.5×149.5cm | 151g |
Warp end | 39x85cm | 38×81.5cm | 86g |
Again, this fabric is SO soft and draped. I’m really pleased with both of these pieces.
