Warp 48 – Pieces finished – “Wings”

Once the weaving was complete, I removed the entire length of fabric from the loom and cut the three pieces apart using a rotary cutter. The width of the metal ruler was used as the fringe length.
I noticed that there were a few weft loops on the back of both the blue and red pieces. The warp yarn had many bumps and lumps which caused the weft to pack unevenly at times. Most of these loops were on the top surface while I was weaving, so I was able to correct them by pulling the weft pick. These loops that I missed were corrected by needle weaving in a replacement length of weft yarn.

After correcting the errors, I wet finished all pieces by hand washing in warm water with Unicorn Beyond Fibre Wash, trimming loose ends (including removing the loop errors) and hard pressing with the iron on the silk setting. All pieces were laid flat to dry.

The fabric is stunning! Lovely sheen, drape and hand, and wonderful iridescence – especially in the red piece.

I think I will name this project “Wings”.
