Warp 47 – Design and Planning

I am going to weave a ruana for me! I have designed the entire pattern myself – a twill with Xs.
The piece will be created in the same way as the ruana in Warp 46. That is, two long pieces of fabric woven on a single warp that are stitched together down the centre back.
A single threading repeat (38 ends) will be about 3cm on loom.

Main warp yarn – Touch 2 ply kid mohair/merino blend, colour Iris (purple)
Border warp & weft yarn & zingers in warp & weft – Venne organic merino, 28/2, colour Turquoise (4007)
Main weft yarn – Touch 2 ply kid mohair/merino blend, colour Sunset (red)

The 2 ply kid mohair/merino blend is about the same size as the 28/2 Venne organic merino and these are both about the same size as the yarns used in Warp 46, so I get to reuse the yarn calculations and the samples from Warp 46 when designing and planning this current warp.

Total ends = 841 (38 per pattern repeat (37 main colour + zinger), 22 repeats – 1 blue, 20 red, 1 blue + 1 for symmetry + 4 for floating selvedges)
Wind warp with 4 ends in hand
Warp length – 4.3m long (2 pieces 1.5m long + sampling + shrinkage + loom loss)
On loom width – 70cm
EPI & PPI – 30
Reed – 10dpi
Sley reed – 3 ends per dent
Treadling = TAW
