Warp 39 – 1st piece (sample) completed

I began the sample by hemstitching with indigo-dyed eri silk (the warp thread) and weaving 10 picks of plainweave.
This was followed by an extended point in eri silk: orange (1-8), yellow (1-8-1) and orange (8-1) (about 3cm); a single pattern repetition TAW in natural eri silk (about 11cm); another extended point the same as the first one; 10 picks of plainweave in indigo eri silk and finally, hemstitching.

I then wove 15 picks plainweave with indigo eri silk, inserted 2 strips of cardboard (in opposite plainweave sheds) and, finally, a further 15 picks of plainweave with indigo eri silk. This gives me a 2-stick header for tying back onto the front apron rod (as described on p74 of Peggy Osterkamp’s book “Warping your loom and tying on new warps”). This header allowed me to cut the sample from the loom and wet finish it while leaving an even tension across the remainder of the warp. When I am ready to begin weaving again, I will tie the cardboard strips to front apron rod.
