I tied the glued stick to the front apron rod, wove 2 picks and hemstitched them. The weft for this piece is mostly 16/2 black mercerised cotton.
I wove a single repetition (384 picks) of black 16/2 mercerised cotton and decided to weave a half repetition (192 picks) using natural coloured hand-spun Tussah silk single ply. I then continued to weave with the 16/2 black mercerised cotton until I had completed about 180cm – that was 10 pattern repetitions in total. I then wove 2 more picks and hemstitched with the black cotton weft.
This piece looks great on the loom – it looks like there is every colour of the rainbow in there, but in reality there are just the 4 colours in the warp (blue, green, orange and purple) and the black weft.
