I began by hemstitching on 2 rows of basketweave and started to weave a 5-thread point twill (12341432) pattern with black 5/2 mercerised cotton.
I didn’t remove knots from the warp as I was winding it, I will remove them as I weave with a splice of a single ply of unplied 5/2 mercerised cotton in the appropriate colour.
I measured the length of the weaving as I went and marked the distance using T-pins.
After a couple of days, the weaving reached 155.5cm; I hemstitched the final two rows of pattern and removed the fabric from the loom. It measured 43cm x 152cm.
Next, I washed the piece on a warm, normal, machine cycle; trimmed the loose ends; pressed it; rolled it with a lint roller and measured it. The finished piece measured 41cm x 147.5cm – its selvedges are really even, so is the beating; I’m so pleased with this piece.
I took the damp piece to the purchaser to see if she liked the piece. She loved it! I left it with her so she could put it on her table once it was dry.
