Warp 15 + Warp 22 – A shoulder bag

A friend asked me to make her a small shoulder bag. We looked through my pieces of fabric and found that she liked the 10th piece from Warp 15, with a gorgeous black Liberty silk lining; I wove the required strap (see Warp 22).

First, I removed the “Made by hand” label from the hand woven fabric. Then I cut a piece of silk the slightly larger than the woven fabric and pressed under the edges to form hems. This was then pinned (hem side down) onto the fabric before machine sewing the two together.

Then I sewed a “Made by hand” label onto the lining at what would be the centre front of the bag opening.

The next step was to sew the inkle strap (Warp 22) onto the back of the bag – I trimmed the ends of the inkle after it was machine sewn to the bag and hand stitched the trimmed, folded end onto the bag.

Finally, I folded the fabric in half and machine stitched the two edges that would be the side and bottom of the bag with a double row of stitching.

I’m really pleased with this bag!
