I want to weave some hair bandanas similar to some that I already have. They are really useful and it would be fun to have some in bright intense colours that I have made myself.
I will use a black warp and a weft of many, many colours. Here’s 2 ways of looking at my colourful weft options – by colour and by brand
The threading will be a 5-thread point twill (Rosepath; pattern #5 from the Small threadings twill gamp of S04E04 of Jane Stafford’s online weaving guild videos).
Treadling will be several small twill patterns – #1 straight draw, #2 point twill, #3 6-thread broken twill, #4 asymmetrical twill (Wall of Troy), #5 5-thread point twill (Rosepath), and #6 4-thread broken twill.
I decided to weave 10 pieces that will have a finished size of about 25cmx40cm. I used my “Yarn calculation” spreadsheet to determine the quantity of warp and weft yarn required.
In summary:
Warp – 10/2 mercerised cotton, black
Weft – 10/2 mercerised cotton, many colours
Warp length – 6m
Total number of ends – 280
EPI – 24
PPI – 24
Width in reed – 30cm
Reed – 16 dent
Sleying – 1,2 per dent
Floating selvedge on each side
