Warp 15 – 1st piece – sampler

I’ve finished the first piece on this warp – it’s another long pattern sampler. Each section is separated by 3 repetitions of basketweave. The beginning and end are 4 picks of straight draw (1 2 3 4) and 2 picks of alternating basketweave (2 4) – the basketweave picks were hemstitched.

The first section is the warp pattern sequence woven TAW using a white weft
The second section is the warp pattern sequence woven TAW but weft predominant, the other side of the cloth is warp predominant using a white weft.
The third section is the warp pattern sequence woven TAW using alternating dark and light (black and white) weft picks.
The fourth section is using the threadings from the small threadings gamp (see project 14) woven TAW using a white weft. The final pattern row of this section was added in from the Jane Stafford videos, the “Gail Meyer” unit substitution point twill threading. I replaced a treadling of 1 with 1 2 3 2 1; 2 with 2 3 4 3 2; 3 with 3 4 1 4 3 and 4 with 4 1 2 1 4 when weaving 1 2 3 4 3 2 1 2 3 4 3 2 1.

After weaving, I cut the fabric from the loom, washed it on a warm water, normal machine cycle, hot pressed the fabric and left it to dry. Finally, the ends were trimmed. You can see the difference that washing makes to the fabric in the photos of section 3 below.
