Warp 14 – 5th piece

The 5th piece on the warp from the small threadings twill gamp from Jane Stafford’s guild videos (season 4, episode 3) has a weft of undulating twill.

I decided to use bands of colour for the weft with 1 repetitions of pattern in each colour band – about 4cm per colour. The colours are celosia orange, freesia (yellow), green glow, cedar green, scuba blue, dazzling blue, radiant orchid (purplish), honeysuckle (pink) and chilli pepper (red). I ended each colour on a 1 treadle and began the next colour also on a 1 treadle.

I began by throwing 2 alternating picks of basketweave and hemstitching and I ended the piece in the same manner. By the time I began the red pattern, I was right at the end of the warp – the warp rod was tight against the castle. This means that the shed was VERY tight and I was unable to use the boat shuttle. I switched to using a stick shuttle and had to press down on the top bar of the down shafts in order to make the shed large enough to be useable. My cloth is about 34cm long.
