I looked through the patterns on the 1st piece, the sampler, and selected my favourite rows for using on the next pieces. I think I have enough warp for 4 pieces that are each about 35cm long.
The 2nd piece on the warp from the small threadings twill gamp from Jane Stafford’s guild videos (season 4, episode 3) has a weft of 6 thread broken twill (a herringbone pattern) ie 1 2 3 4 1 2 4 3 2 1 4 3 treadling (where 1 = shafts 1 & 2, 2 = shafts 2 & 3, 3 = shafts 3 & 4 and 4 = shafts 1 & 4).
I decided to use bands of colour for the weft with 3 repetitions of pattern in each colour band – about 4cm per colour. The colours are celosia orange, freesia (yellow), green glow, cedar green, scuba blue, dazzling blue, radiant orchid (purplish), honeysuckle (pink) and chilli pepper (red).
I began by throwing 2 alternating picks of basketweave and hemstitching and I ended the piece in the same manner. My cloth measures about 36cm.
